I’ve linked to a Tom Scott video here before, his brilliant and excellent explanation of the Heartbleed bug. I really dig this guy because he’s interesting, funny (check out his show Citation Needed), and intelligent. The Shellshock bug is made even more difficult to explain because it deals with Linux, Unix, and the command line interface found in BSD and OS X. Unless you’re a geek, you don’t run into those things every day. At least one news organization referred to the Shellshock bug as the “Bash virus.”
So if you’re curious about what the Shellshock bug is, why it’s important that it be fixed, and why so many people are up in arms about it, well….
Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Tom Scott.
