The Definition of Backasswards

A grunge looking Chrome logo

Big Tech Detective is a Chrome extension that tracks and blocks websites from loading if they share information with the big tech giants like Google, Facebook, Amazon, and Microsoft. You'll get an overlay telling you that this website is locked because it's talking to big tech.

Someone built a Chrome browser extension... to block big tech... on Google Chrome.

The call is coming from inside the house.

I know it's something that's out there trying to raise awareness, and I applaud that. And yes, it'll work on Firefox. In fact, you have to sideload it both to Chrome and Firefox because it's not yet on the Chrome Web Store. Granted, after you install it, I assume it'll block the Chrome Web Store?

Thing is, it's not like there's a lack of options available to you if you'd like to maintain some privacy online.

That way you can use the web, and not hamstring yourself on the basis of awareness. The awareness boils down to a simple, easy to remember statement:

Always assume you're being tracked.
